Title: Only in Mass.
Post by: rjstat on March 09, 2007, 07:01:19 AM
Well yesterday I went to register TSTATS and was I surprised. This goes back to 2005 when I bought my 2005 Expedition in Dec, 2004 I took my 1995 Windstar off the road the tranny was shot I gave it away to charity I went to do the right thing and turn in the plate at the registry but the associate told me that I would lose my reserve plate (special low number plate) they advised me to hold the plate if I was going to get a new vehicle so I did. I spent January looking for the Expy I wanted. I went to mid Feb when I decided to order my SUV so I could get what I wanted I received the Expedition on March 30,2005 and I love my SUV.
Here is what I was pissed about when I tried to register the Cougar I was flagged for owing excise tax so off to the Deputy Tax Collector to pay when I paid the collector that is when I realized I was paying excise tax on two vehicle with the same plate in the same year. After paying $425.00 in taxes, penalties and fine the tax collector told me to bring it back to my city tax assessor office for an abatement so I did when it was all said and done I will receive a $45.00 credit I said what about the other $380.00 they they only can adjust the tax not the penalties or the fines I replied if there was no tax (they just refunded me the tax) how can there be fines for a mistake they apologized and said that was all they could do. So I bent over and took it like a man.

Here it's $38 for reg. vehicle every two years $76 for a special plates (Veterans, Save the Whales, Cape and the Islands) and can be cancelled Reserve plate every two this is your plate for as long as you want it. The only catch is you have to have it active and can only be unregistered for less than a year other wise it becomes a dead plate. Then there are Vanity Plates $81 dollars a year yes a one year and has to be renewed on or by Nov 31st every year but just like the the reserve plate its yours till you no longer want it but unlike reserve plates these can be requested by others and reissued.
