Strolling over the Pontiac. Not to be outdone by Ford's SVT Pontiac finally came up with the brilliant idea for the GXP Performance Series.
The GXP's powerplant is the first direct-injection engine the company's offered in North America (it's also currently offered on its European Opel Vectra model). Roughly, direct injection allows engineers to make more power from smaller engines without sacrificing fuel economy. More power. Better fuel economy.
08 model year, the Pontiac G6 and Pontiac Torrent will get GXP versions. The G6 will have sedan and coupe body styles, and a 3.6L V-6 engine with variable valve timing. It is rated at 252 horsepower (188 kW) at 6300 rpm and 251 lb.-ft. of torque (341 Nm) at 3200 rpm.
The 07/ 08 Pontiac Solstice GXP roadster will get a 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbo engine cranks out 260 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque.
The 08 Grandprix GXP will come with a 303 horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8, with Active Fuel Management.
The 08 G8 will come with a 362-horsepower (270 kW) 6.0L small-block V-8 engine. I wonder if there is a GXP version in the running??? Come on we want V8 GXP's!!! Not those puny 4 and 6 bangers???
Is the G8 the GTO replacement!!! Here is the picture. Not sure if I like or not...
But aye, in UK there is a possible contender for the 6.0L GXP V8 powertrain. With 420 horsepower, 400+ lbs of torque... Ooooh baby...
Looks a little like the G8 eh?reading reference:
