windshield wiper transmission assy
« on: July 01, 2009, 09:48:25 PM »
OK now what do I do. Driven down the rainy road and all of a sudden the  passenger wiper stops in the middle of the windshield and the drivers kept moving. Having a feeling it was an easy fix so I removed the cowling and the wiper Assembly to find the plastic cup for the double ball linkage is worn easy fix right? Not!
Call Joh.nny bling bling there are no parts sold only as a assembly no problem buy the whole assembly. Joh.nny tells me he doesn't have the part and it is obsolete and that there are none available. So what do you do now Junk Yard went to one place if it wasn't broke it was already gone went to Hollands and found one. Got it home installed it and it worked but its noisy as hell. Anyone else have problems with this any info will help.

Sorry, I have been working on the SC for the past two days...

Does it make noise with the arm off?   If so your motor can be bad.  Otherwise the assembly may be installed wrong?  Try moving the wipers with the assembly disconnected.  Do they make noise?  :lunie:
The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.

I checked the install and it was done by the book. Linkage that connect the two pivot points is sloppy and is hitting the other linkage. I just wish you could get the wiper linkage cups for the ball socket

A Junk Yard is the best place.  Bring one with you I assume other model Fords will work too?

The linkage arms are not the easiest things to get to plus anything that is interchangeable is gone I was lucky to get the one I got I had to stack five tires to remove the one I got the only reason it was there was it was in the air

I tried. The problem with that is they are designed to go on but not to come off. When you press them out you first have align the key to the notch and then press them out the problem is the force cracks or distroys the cup.

There is a store on ebay that sells wiper link sockets...

They are for 97 Trucks but I would assume that Ford standardized on parts like this.  You can get JBB to check?   ;)

Well I bought the 97 Ford truck wiper sockets but they don't work for the cougar or t bird the socket is to large for the balls joints so save your money.
