The project has begun...
« on: August 26, 2010, 02:54:29 PM »
I have just started swapping over the sc stuff to the xr7.  The plan is to have it ready in a few weeks.

my current punch list:
1.  Put the 93 gas tank in the xr7 and install the high flow fuel pump.  The old pump was failing.
2.  Put the better exhaust on the xr7.
3.  Install new bearings all the way around and new spindles.
4.  Install the arc shocks i picked up from ct.
5.  Clean the abs sensors.
6.   Replace  calipers and pads as required.
7.  Remove air silencer.
8.  Clean behind the splash guards.
9.  Inspect the xr7.
 :)
The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.

Yes...

i even tried to move over the dis heat sink.  But i discovered that the aluminum screws that fit the 90 35th anny t-bird are much larger than the screws on the supercharged xr7.  So i have to source new screws.

now the tbird is in the driveway and i am going to start stripping off parts.

my plan rip out the electronics, engine, ac, transmission, some trim, wiper motor, dash, fans, cut some body parts off the bird as patch kits for the xr7.  Make a bon fire and throw all the remaining t-bird specific stuff in it then scrap the metal.   :hide:

90 xr7 3.8l supercoupe questions:

help me wanda help me :freddie:!!!  Help help...  :pilot:

ok now :freddie: i need your expert advice.  After cleaning the abs sensors i drive the car home.  It was night and the brakes worked better than the manuals sc brakes but the abs light was on all the time.  I will try it in daylight but i think i may need  a accumulator.  I replaced both the abs relays under the hood.  I hear the motor go on when i turn the ignition.  What do you think?

hers is another question.  I drove the car 5-10 miles and the temperature gauge went to "r" in norm.  This is higher than the tbird was.  Should i switch over radiators and fans or do you think i need to switch motors due to a possible head gasket issue?

I have been reading up on it and all fingers are pointing to a wheel sensor.  Maybe one is bad.  I have scheduled an appointment to get the abs code read.

i have a new fan motor in the 35th so i pulled it today.  I will pull off the radiator as a spare part, minus well grab the new water pump and replace it too.

I just swapped over the radiator cap and so far it seems to run cooler.  The radiator fluid looks old, i will drive it a little and then change it.

the supercharger oil was empty.  I almost used a whole bottle on it.

sounds good when the air silencer off.  One can hear a nice whine when you hit the gas.   :shift:

this car needs paint but when she goes down the road people notice.  Humm...  Reminds me of the old blue kitty.

No problems.

passengers side always seems to be an issue with my cars.  I usually find fix the drivers side switch by using a nail file on the contacts.  However, the passengers side motor that ff just fixed seems to struggle going up.  I will look at it later.

All that said I drove her around town.  Then yesterday morning I hope up and started her and it sounded like a helicopter.  Bla I think the header is loose or cracked.

It is nice out so I started on the thunderbird.  I removed the instrument cluster and started to remove the ignition assembly.  But it will not come off easily.  I pulled the steering wheel and not I have a (&^%^ picot pin puller on order.  Found on for <$20.

So this one will take a few more days.  Off to other parts.

Exhaust problem is fixed.  Someone buggered up the header flange.  I guess I will have to get real headers in the future.
