TC what stal speed do I need
« on: February 10, 2007, 07:33:32 AM »
OK :miller:, :jake: or :freddie: I decided I'm going to buy a Circle D torque converter but what size and what stall speed do I get.
97 - 4.6L Alpine Green Cougar XR-7 w/ Fiber Concepts Hood, SPC cold air intake, 2.5 SLP Dual Exhaust, Eclipse CD4000 w/ Polk's speakers, Koni Shocks, 11/4" Addco sway bars, and Vogtland more to come.

Size? with higher rpm dohc apps and higher numeric rear end values,  You need to get about a 10" T/C to avoid "balooning"... that alone implies a pretty good stall, I would ask for around 2800-3000 rpm.... mine is too high at 3500 RPM and Thats something I do not like.I have trouble controlling the launches . Its driveable, but sometimes a PITA............
'95 T-Bird 5.4L blower and sum stuff
13.6sec 1/4 mi, 300RW at 5250 RPM
GVW 4340 lbs, go figure!

Thank you :jake:. Do you have any special mfg you think has the best TC? Do I need to replace my flex plate?

I like Circle D and chances are you will need a flex plate...   ^-^
The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.
