What is the best pulley kit for the 4.6 ?
« on: August 15, 2013, 11:26:42 PM »
Should I get a fluid or new dampner/crank pulley also ?
I'm thinking yes.
Give me your knowledge on that too.

I keep wearing out cheap Autozone/Advance pulleys in no time. :help:

Too many revs I guess  ;)

They start rattling in 6 months time.
Bearings are :censor:..........or the pulleys start warping so the bearings wear out.......
or............heh...........the bearings just don't stay true/in line because of the revs pulling on them.

I think there is a pulley kit that is the same thing that Ford racing parts use that you can purchase cheaper through hi-po parts houses. I think Summit carries them for sure.

Can't remember the name.

Don't even want to search T C cough cough

thanks J M :afto2:

I'm not sure I want to change the water pump pulley to a smaller one.
I need a tune.
sigh.............
I just turn the A.C. on to get fan working.
But I really need a tune.

There is a place near me called Horsepower Solutions......Hampton VA.

They seem to work on a lot of cars but I haven't heard any comments about them.

I think the programmer is like 379 or 399,,,,,,,,then they want 400 an hour for dyno tune.

sigh..........................that's at least 800 bucks for a tune !!!!!!!

I live in Yorktown Virginia which is near Williamsburg if you don't know.

I can drive to Richmond in an hour.

D.C. in 3 hours.

VA. Beach in an hour.

North Carolina a couple of hours.

If anybody knows a good tuner in this area PLEASE !!  PLEASE !! PLEASE !!!
respond with info.

I use ASP pulleys No ASP527375. Then I raised the idle to above 950 RPM in a tune.  I would try going without a tune, worst case, you can keep your foot on the gas while idling.

ASP No ASP527375:
  • 25 percent HarmonicDampner
  • 26 percent Water Pump
  • 10 percent Alternator

I would recommend replacing an old water pump when you do the install.

The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.

From what I heard you really do not want to instal,l the 180 T-Stat without fan run time modifications.  FF what is the piggyback from?  Is it an eec tuner?

Piggyback

I think its an add on to the exisisting>>>>>>>>>

I saw that water pump too looks good
makes sense

I don't want to slow up the water pump period.

So.................I was going to use other pullies.

Just use alt. pulley ........not going to use water pump one.

Alt. pulley safe to use......especially if you have high output alt.

But slowing up the water pump..............not for me.
I don't have the griffin radiator.
Almost bought it.
Will eventually.

Yea, I saw that kit before.

okay

Same thing I pointed out.  The problem I see with not using the water pump is you may need a different length belt.

oops

Yeah ..........IT SURE IS.

I got O.A.

old age

Yep probably will need a belt

So I talked to Mike( the person selling parts in your classifieds ) yesterday and he said he didn't like the way it idled with the small pulley kit.
...............and he has a 100amp alternator too.

I've kind of backed off the idea a bit.

I wonder if there is a btter company who makes the idlers and tensioner????

Ah come on...  That is the price you pay when you mod your car.  Sometimes a  mod requires another mod.  Remember, Mike went nuts  :pilot: and had way more much HP than most.

Like I said a new water pump is a must.  A high flow water pump is better.  Upping your RPM is good but not required.  Some kits require belt length changes.  Honestly, I do not think my recommendation is bad for a car like yours.

I upgraded my alternator probably for the same reason Mike did.  If you spin the factory Ford alternator greater than 5,500 RPM's it just does not last that long.  If you ever you visit a dyno $$$ you may learn that lesson.  :bby:  This is the reason I have a PA Performance 100 AMP alternator.   But if you stay away from the dyno and do not drive high RPM's then you will not need an alternator upgrade with your pully kit.  A stock Ford alternator will do just fine.

[email protected] went nuts.

He doesn't like talking about it so I don't push the subject (his car) but it must have been a nice one.

Ok J.M. thanks
your logic seems ....uhm...errrrrrrr................uhhhhhhhh ..........logical

Think I will get them with that water pump you listed.

Okay.............going by Horsepower solutions tomorrow to see if he'll sell me a new sctx2 >>>>>>>>>and be willing to program some things without charging me dyno time like:   rpm limiter
anyone know what the factory redline is ?
i know if you put it in low(shifter it will automatically shift into second gear)
but in second gear you get ignition cutoff at certain rpm.

J.m. do you know what it is ?

Can't I safely change it (bump it up a few hundred r.p.m.?)

so essentially what I'm saying is:

Can't I buy the x2 and get him to:
1. bump  rpm a lil (redline)
2.get fan to turn on earlier
3.bump wot shift points a lil
4.eliminate speed limiter
5. bump timing a "C" hair <<<<<cat<<<<<<do you think it's safe to advance timing 2 degrees ?
6.increase trans pressure???????  I question this because I do have jmod
7. anything else ??

okay

I read this thread again.
and.............

well.................I turn my motor pretty tight(poor thing) hence my pulleys are rattling
after a few months of being installed.

Hence.......................maybe I do need the u.d. pulleys
Also, I will eventually get rid of limiters (one way or another)

EITHER BY PURCHASING OOPS a pcm from SuperCoupes
or....................purchasing an sctx2 and getting it done

hell.....it would be cheaper for me to drive somewhere with the x2
errrrr....................thinking out loud..........

But in your honest opinion J.M.
Don't you think a stock motor can turn a lil more rpm than what it allows ?
If so...........and I think you do
then..........5500 ???
I figure it might turn 6k or close to it

I still can't find anywhere the actual rpm number it shorts at ?????
The speed is around 97

Seems that Steeda is well liked at the darkside.
Definetaly going to get that water pump.

P.S.
Then I should get Mikes Alternator ? along with the wpump
Also: Your part number says it fits 96-00 Cobra
Why or whats the difference 96-00 GT has different P#

I think I better call tech line at ASP

Cuz.................I want the harmonic bal/dampner  one piece
I don't want the piggy back

ahhhhhh........looked up 527375 at SUMMIT and it says includes harmonic balancer
and ASP has it for 136.50  the entire set

HECK YEAH !

I bet the Steeda boys payed 2 bills heh
