Actually I was trying to find out the max.
Then I would shift under it

So then 6,000 would be a good (race only) heh shift point.
...............just a couple of times a month.

If I am going to eliminate the rev limiters then I wanted to know the limitations.

Man's got to know his limitations (Dirty Harry voice)

That is my real intention.
I always leave room for error.
So...................If I'm a little late on the 6k then chances are I'll be ok.

I absolutely do not want to puke pieces of rod bearings and bits of valves all over the road.

Thanks

I finally found the spread sheet I made for my last 94-97 mod engine tune.  WARNING: THESE MODS ARE FROM A PERFORMANCE ENGINE WITH FORGED INTERNALS.  Use at your own risk.   :hide:

For my ASP pulleys:
Idle base RPM drive:  1048
Idele bas RPM neutral: 960

180 degree thermostat fan settings:
High Speed fan ECT1 ON:  190
High Speed fan ECT2 ON:  190
High Speed fan ECT1 OFF:  180
Low Speed fan ECT ON:  180
Low Speed fan ECT OFF:  174
Invert Fan Polarity:  1

Turn off my rev limiter (because I have an Mark VIII aluminum drive shaft):
Output speed shaft:  385.5
rev limit 0 off:  6250
rev limit o on:  6500
Speed limit stage 1 off: 7900
Speed limit stage 1 on: 8000
Speed limit stage 2 off: 7800
Speed limit stage 2 on: 8000
Speed limit stage 3:  8000

Now I am going to touch on your RPM question with respect to your desire to rev as high as possible at the track.  Attached is an example dyno I have for a stock 4.6L from 2002.  You should get a dyno tune for to insure you are safe with higher RPM'S.  They tune what is called your WOT "Wide Open Throttle" settings for the track.  The primary settings are spark (timing), air fuel ratio and transmission shift points.

My WOT transmission shift points are:
1-2: 4,600 RPM
2-3: 5,100 RPM
3-4: 5,300 RPM

...and She chips when She hits all three.

My 3-4 transmission shift point was selected based on the RPM's when I reach my peak horse power in my dyno curve.  Most 4.6L & 5.4L tunes I have seen use 3-4 shift points below 6,000 RPM's because the peak HP is below 6,000 RPM's.  I guess there are some exceptions out there...  Newer tunes and the like...  But I doubt it with a stock 94 T-Bird engine...

I believe the rhetoric you heard is talking about pushing the engine above 6,000 RPM's is chest pounding.  All those I hear speak about that most likely have newer internal parts than you have.  Possibly forged like me. Do what you want...  It is your engine.  Besides I doubt you have enough HP to reach those RPM's (with OD off) in a 1/4 mile anyways.

The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.

lol@chest pounding

Well..............i've hit the rev limiter twice in second gear
Once when I didn't notice or forgot  DOH!

I understand about power curves.

Sometimes it helps into the next shift to have rpm's up even with a high stall t.q.

Your car catches O.D. ?
Thats awesome
How much horse you pushing ?

I miss my Holman & Moody built 351 67 Fastback

Oh.....to be honest with you.

With that pulley kit.
I'm seriously thinking about just putting a top of line underdrive
crank damper/pulley.

OR...................Just using the one in the kit and p/s pulley
still really doubtful on the w.p. & alt. pulley

If you go WOT you should turn off the over drive by pressing the button on your shifter.

Attached is an old dyno.  I went back in 2011 to make adjustments to my chip based on my old EEC tuner settings I used before.  Apparently I had stock shifting in the transmission (made a ton of changes to the stock tune that really perked her up), bad O2 during the 06 dyno, and a few other things that are fixed now.  She drives much better now.

The cars done as much as I am willing to work on it.  A mod motor has it's limitations besides, it is a strong street car  that is fun to drive.  I wanted to sell her to make space for the XR7.  But I had no takers so I guess She will become a daily driver.

When you modify .........key word modify.
You rarely get anything close out of it as what you put in it.

Nice car.

They got 1,000 H.P. 4.6's.

The motors are good.

But I understand what you are saying.
I wish I never sold my old Mustang.
Used to have the license plate: DECON

Mu humble opinion is that mod motors are expen$ive to build.  Push rod motors are much closer to my budget!  I can do soooo much more for soo much less...  Well, at least I will find out?

Yep.
I totally agree.

I was wondering why we don't see more  5.0  family like 347's etc.  in Birds.

I guess it's not an easy swap.

Girl wiped it out.

I bet the 347 windsor wouldve gone in nice and easy in that bird.

Hey J.M.

How about PRO-RACE Damper and Pulley kits ?

I can get a PRO-RACE kit shipped with a new crank bolt for like 60 bucks less than the AUTO-SPECIALTIES one

and....................the damper is 25 under itself with timing marks and looks of high quality........also has the quality rating too.

I think the number was 42571 which included damper 32571

please check this out

ever hear of em ?

Come on Dude...  I work...   :flex:

Never heard of that brand.  But I notice that they are sold at Jegs.  If I got a brand I never heard of before, I would at least make sure the dampener is SFI race certified.  You will need a new bolt no mater what you do.

Says SFI >>>>> EXCEEDS 18:1

http://www.pro-race.com/docs/Proracecatalog.pdf

This is a new type of test/quality control that I'm not familiar with.

I think I'm gonna go with it.
