2016 XR7 Project
« on: July 17, 2016, 04:08:17 PM »
It is time to make the XR7 more reliable and do some upgrades.  Here is the plan:
  • Griffin radiator
  • Ranger AC Condensor
  • Double IC with inter cooler fan
  • MP Belt tensions
  • New water pump
  • New AC condenser
  • New power steering pump
  • New AC condenser
  • 3G Alternator upgrade
  • Power seat modification
  • Replace rear window and install new rear seal (to fix defroster).
  • Fix fuel gauge
  • Rebuild ABS motor and locate short

This project has been going on for a while. Now I will post some pictures.
The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.

The Griffin went in easily but the Condenser required modification...

Here is a test fit!  The FF Double IC  fits well... and so does the 3G alternator.

The main fuse to the starter was loose.  It Shorted, burned up and melted part of the fuse box.

Luckily, I have a spare fuse box...

Before installing the radiator the rusted area underneath the radiator is power washed, sanded and painted.  Here is the power wash video...

Yea, I am posting a lot of pictures because i am trying the catch-up...  Trust me we are not into the good stuff yet!

It was discovered that the exhaust was rubbing against the gas tank when pulling the gas tank to diagnose the fuel gauge.  The tank was thin walled and this could be dangerous!

A little rust to the right...  We gotta fix dat!

Jeff has the right stuff to fix it...

A little prep work...

The first cost...

Here is the tank installed..

Stay tuned for rust fix and the level gauge nightmare!  Things every SC owner should know!

While the gas tank was out we spotted the last rust underneath my car...

So it was cut out...

Welded and painted...

What rust you say?

A little undercoating for good measure...

The fuel sending unit was not working so the gas tank was pulled.

First order of business is to remove the gunk...
]

The first NEW Carquest Airtex fuel pump sending unit was tested and failed.

The second NEW Carquest Airtex fuel pump sending unit test.

The third NEW Carquest Airtex fuel pump sending unit test.

That's it Airtex sucks!  At least Carquest accepted returns for all the defective sending units after some debating.

Next a Spectra D2098H was ordered from another Company and it passed the test.

Next week, we will rebuild the ABS!

As we were pulling the ABS it was discovered that the Wiper Transmission Required rebuilding so we used Help 49447 kit to do the job.  Some ears were removed for this job!  But Pete kept His ears!!!  :'(
