The Corvair finally gets some respect!
« on: April 17, 2007, 08:44:34 PM »
In the 60's Chevrolet saw the competition and decided to do something about the VW's and Porsche's and make their own all new car to compete.  The GM Engineers worked overtime to develop what was touted as a super car!  The Corvair was to  have European handling and included an air cooled 6-cylinder engine.  It was the next big thing!

But alas :ralph: Nator decided he had to find something to hang his name on and went after the Automaker.  The car was safe as long as you keep a 11 PSI differential between the front and rear tires front (15/19lbs) and rear (26/30lbs).  Like anyone in the US will watch that???  So the Corvair ended with the same fate as an Edsel.

Now it is finally getting some just dues as the trend setter it once was.  Setting the status quo for European cars for some time...  More info here.
The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.

We must not forget Ford had their share of problamatic auto's forget the  Edsel that was before it's time and needed more technology but more recent the exploding fuel cells of the Pinto and how about the flipping Explorer's even if it was a tire problem compounded with design problem.

In my Humble Opinion, GM, is winning the crappy styling contest, but Chrysler is coming up fast in terms of crappy styling with the nitro, and sebering , not to mention old PT cruisers and Plym. prowlers..... engineering wise GM is being passed handily by the MB/Chrysler  crappy engineering group, But what do I know? i have 2 fords, LOL
