My newest pal. Hey! I like snotty too!
« on: November 30, 2006, 09:20:13 PM »
This is my newest pal... scared the :censor: out'a me , when he fell off the garage door as I was opening it from the inside(he was on the outside) he almost landed on my sandaled foot...Coloration was that of a corn snake, so no real panic, except he was moving to go into the garage... I shoved him back outside, and all of a sudden he started srtiking at the broom I was using. Hmmmmm?? no proper behavior for a corn snake, soooo I killed it... Further inspection with the Audubon society snake book (first thing you buy when moving to Fla)...... revealed that my newest pal was a pygmy rattler, young, but extremely potent venom..... further affiant sayeth not, LOL

Well at least you got it before it got you. I wish an aligator would bite my brother inlaw in the a** he's down FLA but he is not as smart as you :jake: he would of thought it was a garden snake picked up and thrown it a side.

I hear Rattlesnake tastes good?

You can add rattlesnake to chili. Treat rattlesnake as you would any quick-cooking white meat (i.e., chicken, shellfish). Of course, everyone will tell you it "tastes just like chicken". Some consider it gourmet!!!  It is also very good deep fried in a simple "breading." You might try looking for fried alligator recipes too and adapt them for use with your snake. If your rattler is still alive or in one piece, the following directions for dressing rattlesnakes might be helpful:

1. Place dead rattlesnake on a cutting board and hold firmly behind the head.
2. Cut of head and rattles and discard.
3. Strip of skin and discard or save (for a hat band maybe?)
4. Make along slice along the underside and remove all internal organs.
5. Cut into chunks and refrigerate or freeze until ready to use.

I kinda fancy this recipe:
Rattlesnake Chili
Recipe courtesy Team A - Cowboys
Show:    Food Fight
Episode:     Dallas: Cowboys vs. Cityslickers

Vegetable oil
1 large onion, diced
Red Chile Sauce, recipe follows
6 rattlesnake fillets, or 8 ounces meat
Double sweet corn, kernels only, to taste
Poblano peppers, diced, to taste
Serrano peppers, diced, to taste
Jalapeno peppers, diced, to taste
Salt
In a large skillet, heat the oil and add the onions. Cook the onions until they are soft and slightly tender. Add the Red Chile Sauce and the remaining ingredients. Cover the skillet and stew all of the ingredients together for approximately 1 hour. Season the chili with salt.

Red Chile Sauce:
Ancho peppers, diced, to taste
1 white onion, diced
Several tomatoes, chopped
Cumin, whole seeds, to taste
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup chicken stock
Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.

More information on the care and cooking of your snake can be found at Rattlesnake-Recipes.com!

For those of you who do not have your rattler jumping at your feet.  Do not worry you can buy it for $39.95 per pound at Exotic Meats.com!

The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.
