TC lockup @ WOT
« on: September 17, 2007, 08:30:07 PM »
I'm running around and getting mixed opinions.  So here it goes.

Torque Converter lockup at WOT

Common or not?

Detrimental to a Torque Converter?

Thanks for your input in advance!
I'm not interested in any BS when I ask a question, I just want facts.

Refresh my memory.  Are you running with a chip?   You do have a 95?

I used to lock up my TQ but gave up after noticing how much stress it put on my car on a Dyno.  Here is the procedure how to do it with a tuner:

Set the 1-2 shift to 5MPH across the board
Set the 2-3 to 10MPH straight across again
Set the converter lockup in 3rd to like 22 MPH straight across
Set the 3-2 and 2-1 downshifts to speeds lower than the upshifts so it won't kick down.

With that note...  The question is when does it lock up?  How about some more details?   :naut:
The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.

It's actually nothing to do with my car.

Car in question we'll say is...

3700lbs curb weight

No more than 300 horsepower to the tires @ 6k

No more than 300 ;b/ft torque to the tires @ 4k and less

Single plate TC, 10" diameter.

Well...  I would believe it is better for my torque converter lock-up under WOT!  But a single disc torque converter does not have that much clutch surface available so, under WOT the clutches they can burn-up fast!   A multi-disc converter is preferred in this application!   8)

Due to the grief factor and the rampart problems with TQ quality control, and subsequent cover-up from that  :dpee: vendor, I recommend that he looks at http://www.circledtrans.com/converter_shop.php
