1996 & 1997 T-Bird and Cougar Differences
« on: July 27, 2008, 04:48:01 PM »
Here are the diffrences. Ford discounted the 1997 Thunderbird and Cougar:

  • 1997 gets a tarus insturment cluster.
  • 1997 has no lights in the door.
  • 1997 does  not have glove box struts that lower the glove box slowly.
  • 1997 has no locking inside trunk release.
  • 1997 has no light under the hood.
  • 1997 has no locking glove box.
  • 1997 does not have a chrome ring in sun roof gasket.
  • All 1997's get disk brakes.
  • Most 19996 get disk brakes on rear but some early cars without abs have drums in rear.
  • The 1997 get great cupholders. It can be eaisly be refited to a 19996. I recomend that you get a 96 over a 97.
  • The 1997 sunroof is also completely different than the 1996 sun roof, they are narrower and a little longer and they use a totally different control module.
  • Some 1996's get rear disk brakes that do not have abs.
:flex:
The 5.4 swap has been called a bad idea, and considered an underpowered considerable waste of time, since 2007.

Nice to see that most donít think that anymore.

I would rather have disc brakes and ABS all around. The glove box strut is nice but not necessary there is a tab on the back of the box which keeps it from dumping on the floor but easier to get wiring harness and antenna relay. Light under the hood is no loss half the time it shines in the wrong area than you need it and only good to check your oil carry a flash light in your glove box it has more uses same for the lights in the door. The locking trunk release and glove box if you LOCK the DOORS why do you need a lock on them unless you use a lot of valet parking. The change for the sun roof was because there where allot problems with the older model also it is the one that is used in the 97/98 Mark Series.
97 - 4.6L Alpine Green Cougar XR-7 w/ Fiber Concepts Hood, SPC cold air intake, 2.5 SLP Dual Exhaust, Eclipse CD4000 w/ Polk's speakers, Koni Shocks, 11/4" Addco sway bars, and Vogtland more to come.
08 Volvo XC90 loaded.
